Aligning Graphics to the Stage and to Each Other
You will eventually encounter a situation in which an object on the Stage needs to be precisely aligned with the center of the stage or a number of objects must be precisely aligned with each other. This is the purpose of the Align panel. You open the panel by choosing Window > Align or by pressing the Ctrl+K (PC) or Cmd+K (Mac) keys.
- Open a new Flash document, draw a circle on the Stage and convert it to a graphic symbol.
- Open the Align panel.
The Align panel enables you to align objects to each other and to the Stage. Select the symbol on the Stage and click the To Stage button on the Align panel. Clicking this button means anything selected on the Stage will be aligned relative to the dimensions of the stage. Now click the Align Vertical Center and the Align Horizontal buttons in the Align panel. The circle will align itself with the center of the Stage. Clicking any of the buttons in the top row will move the circle to an appropriate position on the Stage. Click the To Stage button to turn off this aspect of the Align panel.
- Drag two more instances of the circle to the Stage and select all three.
This time you will align objects with each other. Click the Align Vertical Center button, and the circles will move into a perfect row across the center of the Stage.
